On April 23, 2026, my favourite U.S. Senator, Bernie Sanders, introduced a bill to block the sale of bulldozers and bombs to Israel. This is the third time that he has introduced a bill with that intent.
While the resolution did not pass, it did receive the support of more than three dozen Democratic Senators. This is, significantly, more than double the number of votes received in his earlier 2024 and 2025 attempts.
In fact, when the bill was introduced for the first time in 2024, only 18 Senators voted in favour.
It is clearly time for the U.S. to stop arming the state of Israel, which has become the most destructive terrorist nation in the Middle East. Since October 2023, this apartheid country has waged a virtually one-sided war on Gaza, systematically destroying housing and infrastructure, while killing close to 80,000 Gazans and injuring almost 175,000.
Not content with destroying Gaza, on February 28th of this year Israel joined with the United States to launch an unprovoked war of aggression against the state of Iran.
In international law, a war of aggression is a war crime. Germany’s wars of aggression in the 1930s were the cause of the Second World War. In response, immediately following that war the world came together and drafted international laws making it a crime for one nation to attack another nation unless they were responding to an assault or to prevent an imminent attack.
Iran was not an imminent threat to either the U.S. or Israel. In fact, at the time the countries were conducting peace negotiations which were going well. The attack was reportedly instigated by Israel, due in part to evidence the timing of such an assault would provide an opportunity to assassinate Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Israel is increasingly seen as an aggressive terrorist state and has joined Iran as being judged a major threat to Middle East stability. There is ample evidence to support this judgement:
- The war against innocent Palestinians in Gaza continues, and Israel refuses to allow Palestinians a state of their own.
- Israel has expanded the unlawful settlements and annexation in the West Bank, forcibly displacing over 30,000 Palestinians. Settler violence against Palestinian residents continues to grow with no consequences for the perpetrators, while it has now been reported that Israeli soldiers are using sexual assault and harassment to force Palestinians to leave.
- Israel has recently amended its criminal code to permit capital punishment but only against Palestinians.
- Israel has used the Iran war as an opportunity to attack southern Lebanon on the pretext of eliminating Hezbollah. To date, more than 2,000 militants and civilians have been killed and over one million innocent Lebanese civilians have been displaced.
Israel’s actions are finally producing a massive change in US public opinion about the country. It should now be only a matter of time before this change makes it impossible for the American government to continue providing Israel with military aid.
Israel is extremely dependent on U.S. support. If political opposition in America finally leads to the termination to this patronage, let’s hope that will bring about an end to Israeli warmongering and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in the Middle East.

Very good article as usual, tim. I have one concern however. You state that Israel “has now joined Iran as being judged a major threat to Middle East stability”. You don’t mention judged by whom. Iran is not a threat to middle east stability. It is hated by the west because it opposes the treatment of the Palestinians by Israel and supports both the Palestinians and the groups in the Middle east that also support Palestine. The other countries in the Middle East that support Israel in its genocide against Palestine are the not only the real threat to stability , but they are also guilty of supporting war crimes. Iran is to be praised for its consistent support against the criminal horrors inflicted in Palestine.
