While a precarious and fragile truce appears to be holding between the U.S., Israel, and Iran, anything but a truce is currently in effect in Lebanon.
Israel, having invaded Lebanon south of the Litani River and having ordered over one million Lebanese civilians to leave their homes and villages, is now systematically destroying dozens of empty villages.
It is depopulating southern Lebanon.
This is yet another clearcut example of Israel committing war crimes with apparent immunity.
Not content with literally turning south Lebanon into a barren landscape, Israel is also targeting journalists who are attempting to document this atrocious behaviour.
On April 22nd, Israeli attacks killed five people in southern Lebanon, including Lebanese journalist Aman Khalil who was working for the daily Al Akhbar newspaper. Her colleague Zeinab Faraj was wounded. They had taken shelter in a building after their car came under attack. Israeli forces attacked them again, bombing the building and burying the journalists in the rubble.
This latest atrocity is far from the only one. According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, 129 press members were killed in 2025, and Israel was responsible for two-thirds of those deaths. 2025 was a record year for press fatalities.
The only nation in the Middle East that consistently stands up against Israel is Iran, including by funding proxy groups. It is no wonder that they provide arms, training, and funding to Hezbollah.
Hezbollah was founded in 1982 by Lebanese clerics in response to Israel invading their country, over time becoming the primary military force and a significant political force in the country. They continued to battle with Israel for the next two decades, eventually forcing their troops out of Lebanon in 2000. On and off active conflicts with Israel continued after that.
Hezbollah and Israel went to war again in October 2023. They agreed to a ceasefire in November 2024, which didn’t last long. Taking advantage of the war with Iran, Isreal invaded southern Lebanon on March 2nd 2026.
The only good news is that with every atrocious war crime committed by Israel, world public opinion continues to turn against this pariah state.
The days of Israel’s Zionist government are numbered.
