On January 7,2026 in Minneapolis, ICE agent Jonathan Ross murdered 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good in cold blood. I am dedicating this blog to her memory.
What makes this murder particularly reprehensible and very, very frightening is the response from President Donald Trump and others in his cabinet. Immediately after the murder, and up until the present, they have maintained that the ICE agent was acting in self-defense, arguing that Renee Good was attempting to run him over with her car.
There is no federal investigation underway into the actions of Agent Ross. Instead, the FBI has been tasked only with investigating the backgrounds of Ms. Good and her family. Although details are vague, six Minnesota federal prosecutors have now resigned.
Before seeing a video of the incident, I was left with the impression that there was at least a tolerable argument that Agent Ross was acting in a justifiable way. However, I then watched the analysis on one of my favourite podcasts, the Rational National.
The host, David Doel, replayed a New York Times breakdown of a bystander’s video of the incident. This analysis leaves absolutely no doubt that ICE Agent Ross was standing not directly in front of Renee Good’s vehicle but to the left of it. In addition, Ms. Good had turned her steering wheel to the right and was in the process of driving AWAY from ICE agents. Jonathan Ross then shot her in cold blood. He doing so, he not only murdered Renee Good but also left her three children motherless. Her 6-year-old son became an orphan as his father had died in 2023.
I have been heartened by the overwhelming reactions of so many Americans who have taken to the streets to protest this senseless killing. Demonstrations against the killing and the actions of the Trump regime continue in Minneapolis. Trump has responded by sending substantially more agents to the city.
Officials from Minnesota have been in the forefront of opposing the criminal actions of ICE and the Trump regime. Not only have the Minneapolis mayor Jacob Frey and Minnesota governor Tim Walz spoken out repeatedly but the state of Minesota, Minneapolis, and sister city Saint Paul have filed suit to prevent ICE continuing to operate in Minnesota.
Three recent polls covered by CNN on January 14th all showed over 50% of Americans saying the shooting was not justified, approximately double the number who supported the ICE rationalization. Only one-quarter agreed with the Trump regime’s assertion that Ms. Good had intentionally targeted the agent in an act of ‘domestic terrorism,’
Former Trump supporter, podcaster Joe Rogan, called the shooting “horrible”, comparing the behaviour of ICE agents to that of Nazi Germany’s Gestapo.
ICE and other government agents have continued their unlawful, violent behaviour. The day after the murder of Ms. Good, a man and a woman were shot and injured during a vehicle stop by a Border Patrol agent in Portland, Oregon. On January 14th, another Minneapolis resident was shot in the leg by an ICE agent during an altercation.

American actions are increasingly lawless and violent. The country continues to slither ever further into fascism.
