On Friday, March 25th I’m hosting my monthly virtual gathering. The session will open at 6:30pm and the presentation will start at 7pm. To learn more and to register, click here.
This month’s gathering – Where is the Peace in Israel-Palestine? – will be presented by Robert Massoud. He has a wealth of information with regards to the Middle East in general, and in particular the 70-year history that has brought us to where we are today.
Robert Massoud is a Palestinian Canadian. His family came to Canada when he was still a young child.
In 2004, Robert founded Zatoun, which distributes fair trade olive oil and other products from Palestine to benefit vulnerable people, groups, and partners — especially farmers, women and the young — and to serve as a symbol of light, hope, and peace. Zatoun products provide a friendly, delicious, and a non-threatening way to spark an interest in everyday Canadians to learn about Israel-Palestine.
Robert has spoken to a wide range of audiences including faith groups, activist networks, and student bodies with a unique message of creative partnership and non-violent resistance, engaging North Americans to learn about and be in solidarity with Palestinians and their struggle for a just peace for Israel-Palestine.
When Nelson Mandela was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1964, most of the world community believed that the South African apartheid regime would last forever. However, a handful of dedicated concerned citizens worldwide grew over time until international pressure on South Africa was so great that the apartheid regime agreed to not only release Nelson Mandela from jail but more importantly to the dismantling of the apartheid regime itself.
Today the nuclear-armed apartheid state of Israel appears to be invincible. However, just as was the case with South Africa, I believe it is only a matter of time before the world witnesses a one-state solution – Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza becoming one secular, nuclear weapons free, democratic state. This can only come about when a large enough number of people understand and learn from the Middle East’s recent history.
This is why I am so looking forward to Robert Massoud’s presentation.
I look forward to seeing you Friday March 25th. To learn more and to register, click here.
