Surplus: Terrorized Into Being Consumers (2003) is a visually striking documentary by Erik Gandini that critiques globalization and modern consumer culture. Using rapid montages and corporate imagery instead of traditional narration, it exposes how capitalism and mass media condition people to find identity through consumption while ignoring global inequality and human disconnection. The film challenges viewers to question the true cost of abundance in a world driven by profit and excess.
6:30 – Waiting room opens
7:00 – Brief introduction by Tim Louis, followed by the showing
8:15 – Discussion and guided conversation
These events will be recorded.

On the fourth Friday of every month, we gather online for a community experience of fun and a thought-provoking exploration of the important issues that face our world, society, and human family. These nights are intended to create a community of practice, which is a group of people who engage in a process of collective learning. By engaging in this community of practice, we can all learn how to collectively work towards a better world and understand the issues currently facing us.
