NEW: On the Vancouver Votes sample card above, you may notice the addition of a barcode on the bottom of your WHERE TO VOTE Card. When you vote Saturday, election officials will scan the barcode to digitally strike you off the voter's list. This new technology will help provide you with a quick and simple voting experience.

In the 2008 Vancouver municipal election only 31% of eligible voters cast a vote. In the 2005 Vancouver municipal election 32% of eligible voters cast a ballot. What will the voter turnout be in 2011?
The November 19th election is rapidly approaching and the various campaigns are busy engaging voters across the city in various ways: social media (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube), candidate websites, media releases, press conferences, bus ads, lawn signs, main streeting, door knocking, phoning, attending events, and participating in community debates. Yet with all this focused energy, and all the money that will be spent on our municipal election, if history is any indication, the majority of Vancouver voters will not turn out to vote. And that's a pity.
Traditionally, the segment of voters who are least likely to cast their ballot are the young, those under 35. To encourage younger voters to vote, in 2011 Vancouver City Hall has looked for new ways to engage voters so that come November 19th those eligible to cast a ballot might be better informed about the process, the issues and the many, many candidates running in the 2011 Vancouver municipal election.
Perhaps with the emergence of the new iPhone app there'll be greater turnout.
The Tim Louis campaign urges you to download the freely available Vancouver Votes iPhone app in order that you might become better informed about the candidates running in the 2011 municipal election, in order that yours might be an informed vote when you cast your ballot on Saturday, November 19th, 2011.
In addition, Advance Polling begins next week (more information below). Tim encourages you to attend an all-candidates meeting in your neighbourhood to hear what those running for office have to say. Below, you will find Vancouver Votes information links. We encourage you to click on the graphics you'll find below.
Let's move the voter turnout UP in 2011, to ensure that a majority of eligible Vancouver voters get out to their local voting stations to cast their ballot and VOTE.
